Mogadishu, Somalia – Somalia has concluded its first-ever participation in the eFIBA Season 4 NBA® 2K26 National Team Competition, finishing third in the Africa regional standings and marking a significant milestone for the country’s growing presence in international esports.
Organized by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), the Africa stage of eFIBA Season 4 brought together national teams competing for one qualification spot at the eFIBA World Finals in Doha, Qatar. At the end of the competition, Algeria secured first place and qualified for the World Finals, followed by Morocco in second place, while Somalia earned a commendable third-place finish.
This historic achievement was made possible through the strong collaboration between the Electronic Somali Sports Federation (ESSF) and the Somali Basketball Federation (SBF). The joint effort combined esports expertise with national basketball governance, ensuring proper coordination, athlete preparation, and official representation under FIBA structures.
Somalia’s debut performance demonstrated competitive growth, discipline, and determination against experienced continental opponents. While only the top-ranked nation advanced to the global finals, finishing on the podium in a first appearance reflects the steady development of digital basketball and structured esports programs within the country.
The experience gained during Season 4 provides an important foundation for the future. ESSF, in continued partnership with SBF, confirms its commitment to returning stronger for eFIBA Season 5, with expanded training programs, improved competitive structures, and deeper talent development initiatives aimed at elevating Somalia’s performance on the continental stage.
ESSF extends its congratulations to Algeria on securing qualification to the World Finals in Qatar and commends Morocco for its strong performance, while expressing appreciation to the Somali esports and basketball communities for their continued support.
