The Somali Basketball Federation (SBF), established in 1960, serves as the governing body for basketball in Somalia. Affiliated with the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) since its inception, the SBF oversees the development and regulation of basketball activities nationwide. It also holds a position on the executive board of the Arab Basketball Confederation, highlighting its active participation in regional basketball affairs.

Under the SBF’s guidance, the Somalia men’s national basketball team has achieved notable success. A significant accomplishment was securing the bronze medal at the 1981 FIBA Africa Championship, a tournament Somalia had the honor of hosting. This achievement remains a landmark in the nation’s basketball history.

The federation is committed to promoting basketball across all demographics, including women’s participation.
